It feels like a suped-up version of E.T. : A group of kids have their town turned up-side-down by something incredible and unexplainable. Further, E.T. director Steven Spielberg is serving as a producer for the film. The official synopsis of the film:
In the summer of 1979, a group of friends in a small Ohio town witness a catastrophic train crash while making a super 8 movie and soon suspect that it was not an accident. Shortly after, unusual disappearances and inexplicable events begin to take place in town, and the local Deputy tries to uncover the truth – something more terrifying than any of them could have imagined.

The Filmsmith 
This is one of the few summer blockbusters I’m actually looking forward to this year. I love Kyle Chandler from Friday Night Lights, and I’m a big fan of Abrams, as well as early Spielberg sci-fi which this seems to be heavily influenced by. Always excited for a film that doesn’t give everything away in the marketing.

It’s been a LONG time since ANYONE has come up with a story which has generated so much brou-ha-ha… even the TRAILER has me on the edge of my seat!!! I cannot WAIT for THIS release!!!
